In a significant milestone for India's burgeoning semiconductor industry, Infineon Technologies has inaugurated a state-of-the-art Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. This strategic move not only underscores Infineon's growth ambitions but also highlights Gujarat's burgeoning reputation as a hub for high-value innovations. The centre, located in the prestigious Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), is set to strengthen India's position in the global semiconductor landscape.
Infineon, a global leader in power systems and IoT solutions, has a long-standing commitment to innovation in India. Currently employing over 2,500 professionals across four locations, Infineon aims to nearly double its Indian workforce to 5,000 over the next five years, with a strong emphasis on Research and Development (R&D). This expansion positions India as a critical component of Infineon's global innovation strategy.
Key Features of the New R&D Hub:
The inauguration of Infineon's GCC is the first approval under Gujarat's Gujarat Global Capability Centre (GCC) Policy (2025-30). This policy aims to establish at least 250 new GCCs, attract investments worth ₹100 billion, and create 50,000 jobs. By embracing this policy, Gujarat is poised to become a leading destination for high-value innovation centres, further reinforcing its status as an economic powerhouse.
Infineon's commitment to innovation extends beyond its facilities to engaging with local universities, startups, and small and medium enterprises. This collaborative approach will foster a robust ecosystem that supports emerging technologies and talent development in India.
According to Jochen Hanebeck, CEO of Infineon Technologies, "India is rapidly emerging as a hub for semiconductor innovation. We are proud to be at the heart of this development and are committed to participating in the country’s tremendous market growth by targeting more than one billion euros in sales in 2030."
The Government of Gujarat has played a crucial role in supporting Infineon's expansion plans, offering a conducive environment for global companies to set up high-value innovation centres. Mona Khandhar, Principal Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, Government of Gujarat, noted that this initiative positions Gujarat as a leading destination for such centres.
Infineon's new R&D hub in Ahmedabad marks a significant milestone in India's semiconductor industry, signaling a leap forward in innovation and technological advancements. As India continues to grow as a global hub for R&D, Infineon's strategic investment not only enriches the local talent pool but also contributes to India's economic and technological growth.
